The Bourne Academy was honoured to welcome Dame Julia Cleverdon, DCVO, CBE to their annual Awards Ceremony last week.

Dame Julia, one of the UK's top educational experts, presented exam certificates, trophies and prizes, for Attainment & Effort, House Achievement Awards and Areas of Learning.  the Class of 2016 returned to the Academy to celebrate their GCSE examination results.  Students received certificates and awards in a packed hall filled with proud parents and carers.

There were four special awards; the newly donated Matthew Clements Award for Technology Engineering & Design presented to Ellie Hutchings, The Leslie Batchelor Award for sporting achievement, presented to Reece Sears, The Outstanding Achievement Award for outstanding examination results presented to Max Remington and the Miss Steel Award, for great courage and triumph presented to Hugo Barker.

After the presentations, Dame Julia gave an inspiring address - drawing on her wealth of experience from senior leadership roles.   Afterwards she wrote, "Thank you so very much for the organisation of such a fascinating evening.  It was truly a first in thirty years of doing speech evenings and prize givings.  I had never seen such a close and impressive range of teachers speaking about their young people with such insight and clarity.  It was so touching and marvellous to see the calibre of teachers and the response of their young people - many of whom had obviously found The Bourne Academy a place of joie de vivre and purposefulness and an oasis from the challenges that some were facing."
