GCSE Success
With the new GCSE grading for English and mathematics 2017 will inevitably be a year of volatility. Schools were assured that ‘comparable outcomes’ will be used to keep overall standards around grades 4 and 7 similar to last year’s grades C and A. I am delighted to say that this is exactly what we have witnessed at The Bourne Academy.
We can report that our GCSE performance is similar to last year. Furthermore, our English and mathematics A* to C results have remained stable at 69% and 60% respectively.

- Amarilla Antal who achieved 1 grade 9, 1 A*, 2 grade 8’s, 1 A, 1 Distinction and 2 B grades
- Jasmine Ames who achieved 1 grade 9, 2 Distinction*, 2 A’s, 1 grade 7 and 3 B grades
- Ellie House who achieved 1 A*, 1 Distinction*, 1 grade 8, 1 A, 1 grade 7, 1 grade 6 and 4 B grades
Mark Avoth, Principal, said ‘With GCSE examinations currently undergoing a phased programme of reform and the content being more demanding, coupled with the new grading structure of 9-1 replacing the existing A*-G grades, I am absolutely delighted with these results. Particular congratulations to the students who achieved grade 9’s in English and mathematics as this places their result in the top 3% of the country.
