Heartfelt donation of Device at Bourne

A generous gift of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been donated to The Bourne Academy recently by its Special Educational Needs and Disability Cooordinator, Miss Hayley Gaj.  The device will be housed in a suitably alarmed wall cabinet, for easy use in an emergency by the Academy and the local community.  The special housing for the AED was kindly donated by the Whittome family.

Miss Gaj, SENCo, said, "the donation of an AED was presented to The Bourne Academy in memory of Allegra Whittome, on her 18th birthday.  Through my business, InspirED4Life, I aim to educate others through first aid courses, in recognising the importance of AEDs and the role they play of increasing the chance of survival following heart failure.  These are pivotal medical devices in emergency situation.  Whilst we hope this facility will not be needed, it is reassuring to know that we are safe and able to respond efficiantly in an emergency situation."

AED training is not required, as the equipment is semi-automated.  However the Academy will train up 'key' First Aid staff, who are likely to be primary responders in an emergency.  In order to further assist 999 operators and ambulance crews, the local ambulance service has been fully informed of the equipment and its location.
