The Bourne Academy and Canford School have been shortlisted in the Independent-state school partnership award category of the Tes Independent Schools Awards 2018.
This award recognises initiatives that involve working and cooperating effectively with a state school or schools. The benefits to all parties must be made clear.
Evidence of effectiveness and impact must be provided. The judges will be looking for projects that demonstrate creativity, energy and a business-like approach in delivering great results.
The Bourne Academy is taking part in an important research project that the Bournemouth and Poole 14-19 Team have commissioned to inform their education plan for 2018-19. Bourne Academy History teacher is to be mentored by a top Oxford academic, as part of a pilot initiative aimed at getting more state secondary pupils into the top university.
The Bourne Academy are pleased to announce we will be working with The Amy Winehouse Foundation this academic year. The first session began with Year 7 on Wednesday 18th October.
We are proud to announce that The Bourne Academy has been recognised for it’s excellent work in careers and is now one of the top three performing schools in the UK for the Gatsby Good Career Guidance, the gold standard of careers guidance measurement.
The Academy has been lucky enough to receive funding from several local and national charities in its march to fully support young people to reach their full potential.
With the new GCSE grading for English and mathematics 2017 will inevitably be a year of volatility. Schools were assured that ‘comparable outcomes’ will be used to keep overall standards around grades 4 and 7 similar to last year’s grades C and A. I am delighted to say that this is exactly what we have witnessed at The Bourne Academy.
We are delighted to announce, 2017 has achieved the highest ever KS5 results - 33.3% of all grades were A*- B across all subjects and 77.2% of all grades were A* - C across all subjects.
It was time to say goodbye to our Chinese visitors with a cream tea party which included scones, jam and cream. Sad farewells were said between students, as they exchanged contact details to stay in touch.
This year, the 'Class of 2017' Year 11 students enjoyed their Prom at The Hilton Hotel in Bournemouth. A wonderful evening was had by students and staff alike. Everyone dressed up for the special evening, enjoying a sit down meal and dancing till late.
A generous gift of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been donated to The Bourne Academy recently by its Special Educational Needs and Disability Cooordinator, Miss Hayley Gaj. The device will be housed in a suitably alarmed wall cabinet, for easy use in an emergency by the Academy and the local community. The special housing for the AED was kindly donated by the Whittome family.
