National Careers Week 2019 at The Bourne Academy

For National Careers week 2019, staff at The Bourne Academy have been sharing their own career journeys with students and highlighting the skills they have learned in previous roles. Throughout the week, workshops and talks have taken place to inspire students to think about their own career pathways, including Apprenticeship talks and a visit from Department for Work and Pensions.

Students and staff alike were also very pleased to meet Tom ‘The Blowfish’ Hird who gave an inspiration talk to students about his passion for conservation and marine biology; we would like to thank Sovereign Housing Limited who partially sponsored this visit.

The Bourne Academy has been recognised for its excellent work in careers and it is now one of the top three performing schools in the UK for the Gatsby Good Career Guidance, the gold standard of careers guidance measurement. At The Bourne Academy, all students are given the information, guidance and skills they need to make good choices for their future. All careers research indicates that parents/carers are the number one influence in the career plans of their child and, from Year 7 onwards, Academy students are offered a variety of opportunities to develop their career aspirations.
