A Level & BTEC Results 2022

97% A* to E grades achieved and the vast majority of Year 13 students have secured their choice of university or course of study.

The Bourne Academy, an all-ability state-funded secondary Academy sponsored by Canford School, is delighted to announce it has achieved another excellent set of A-Level and BTEC examination results. Standout results have been achieved in Music and Sport. Students are going on to higher education to study a wide variety of courses, some are taking up apprenticeship opportunities and others are entering the world of work.

Earlier this summer, Year 13 Bourne Academy students sat A-Level and BTEC examinations for the first time since 2019. This year group faced the additional challenge of never having sat external examinations; they experienced an eight-week school closure in the first year of their A-Levels and many lessons and weeks of learning have since been disrupted by Covid amongst staff and students.

Despite these unprecedented challenges Academy students have shown enormous determination and resilience. It has been a pleasure to greet students this morning as they came into school to collect their results. All students have been keen to share their successes with their teachers and all echoed their thanks to the staff who have guided them through their courses over the last two years.

Our sixth form is proud to offer some vocational options (BTEC) alongside the more traditional A-Level subjects. These qualifications have also delivered significant success this year with 40 of these results obtaining a Distinction/Distinction* (equivalent to an A-Level A/A*).  In BTEC Triple Sport 89% of students gained a Distinction/Distinction* and in BTEC Music 100% of students gained a Distinction/ Distinction*.

Particular Successes:

Congratulations to the following students:

  • Taylor for his A Level grade A and three BTEC Distinctions
  • Billy for his A Level grades A, A, C
  • Kate for her BTEC Distinction, and 2 x Distinction*
  • Anne for her A Level grade A*, A and BTEC Distinction* - she has chosen to continue studying in Germany.

Mark Avoth, Principal, commented: ‘It is important to bear in mind that our Year 13 students have had the most disrupted learning journey of any other cohort.  The summer examinations were the first external assessments taken by the cohort since their KS2 SATs.  Therefore, to say I am proud of what they have achieved is an understatement.  They have proved themselves to be mature, self-motivated individuals who have worked tirelessly to ensure the best possible future outcomes for themselves.  Congratulations to all the students who have been successful in progressing to the next stage of their life journey, in higher education or work-based training.  Thank you also to their teachers who have worked very hard to support them during this challenging time.  We wish all of our students every success for their future.’
