World leading Professor to visit Academy

In March, we are excited to welcome Lord Robert Winston (Professor of Science and Society & Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London).

While on site,  Lord Winston will be holding a lecture and ethical debate with GCSE and A Level students who have chosen to study a STEM subject.  He will also attend a Scholar's lunch with Academy students and will meet other groups of students, including some from the Academy's sponsor, Canford School.

In 2010, Professor Winston set up an innovative Reach Out teaching programme for students at the leading STEM University, Imperial College London, aiming to give a taste of real science and allowing them to do experiments first hand.  He is committed to scientific education and his aim is to engage and inspire more young people, regardless of background, to consider STEM subjects at university and to go on to a career within the sciences.  Later in the month, the Academy will also welcome Astro-Physicists from the Reach Out programme and their mobile pop-up planetarium.
