Together With Kenya School & Community

The Bourne Academy has been supporting our partner, Together With Kenya (previously the Osiligi Obaya Primary School) in the Maasai Warrior community in Kenya since 2011. Our key objective is to assist the community to become more economically active, helping them to help themselves, whilst not changing their beautiful culture.

The School now has more than 180 UK sponsored pupils on roll and, several years on, it has a reputation for being one of the best schools in Kenya. The school now has electricity, water, a community centre, a SEND centre, a kitchen, books, 18 computers and broadband internet. It also has excellent teachers, who live in purpose built houses provided for them.  The Bourne Academy sponsors two children at the school, Patience and Joseph.

Together With Kenya is found 30 miles to the south of Nairobi and four miles from the nearest village; it was officially formed to help the Osiligi Maasai Warriors community with two main projects in mind:

  • Clean Water
  • Education

Here at the Academy, we are very fortunate to have incredible state-of-the-art facilities and excellent free learning opportunities. In Kenya, primary education is compulsory although it is not free, with many state schools charging extra costs that are beyond the very poor Maasai people.

In 2016-17 we spent two years, as a community, raising £5000 to build a new teachers house. The house was completed in 2018 and is now being lived in by some of the teachers. There is a plaque by the door naming “The Bourne Academy House”.

In 2022 we began to sponsor two children at the primary school; for £25 a month each, a girl and a boy  (Patience and Joseph) will now have an education and a main meal every day. We will be following their progress and sharing news with the TBA community.

In 2025 we are proud to continue supporting our partners in Kenya through their next chapter! The Osiligi Charity has officially rebranded as Together With Kenya (TWK UK), reflecting its expanded mission to support education and skills development for both young people and adults. Click here to view the full presentation and learn more about Together With Kenya’s incredible journey. The new school opened in 2026.
