Literacy Support Assistant
Salary c£10,900- £11,800
Part time/Term time only, 18 hours per week
The role is to support the Literacy Coordinator in the development, delivery, monitoring and review of the literacy development plan, including allocation of resources. The main duties are:
- Supporting classroom literacy programmes including the tutor time reading programme and whole school testing
- Supporting the teaching staff of the Academy in growing a love of learning through reading for all students, and encouraging parents as partner readers
- Delivering the Lexonik Leap and Lexonik Advance programmes to identified groups of students and being accountable for their progress
- Providing extra-curricular learning opportunities to enhance students’ literacy skills including but not limited to managing and coordinating the Carnegie book club in partnership with Canford School
- Supporting with the administration and assessment of the reading and spelling diagnostics, recording of interventions to Provision Map, Arbor and Literacy Pathways and informing all stakeholders, including parents/carers, of student progress
- Promoting literacy both in the Academy and wider learning community, providing information, advice and guidance on a regular basis (for example, through the Academy newsletter) regarding literacy
- Supporting the auditing and sharing of literacy resources with all relevant staff including teachers, TAs, HLTAs and the Literacy Coordinator
- Working co-operatively with the Literacy Coordinator in providing advice and support for staff
- Working with the Literacy Coordinator to ensure the library supports teaching and learning, literacy opportunities and study opportunities for students
- General management of the Library (alongside the Literacy Coordinator), including running the Break and Lunchtime Library Club for students, including issuing Library Passes, issuing books, keeping returns logged and up-to-date, keeping the library tidy, relevant, appealing and fit for purpose.
- To maintain an outstanding library and information centre for the Academy so that all students are able to fully access literature and non-fiction texts from a range of sources.
Previous experience of working with children is an advantage.
An enhanced DBS check will be undertaken.
