Houses

The Academy’s House system is named after the lighthouses standing at various points along the south coast, aiding navigation, providing illumination, and safe harbor for mariners and wayfarers. We at The Bourne Academy aspire to do likewise for all our students.

Houses are a key part of academy life, creating smaller communities within the school where students can form strong bonds across different year groups. Each student, along with their families, becomes a member of a House upon joining and stays with that House throughout their time at the Academy, fostering a sense of continuity and belonging.

The House system encourages healthy competition through activities like sports, academic challenges, creative arts, and community service. It also offers leadership roles, such as House Captain, allowing students to develop confidence, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility.

Our House Charities

At our Academy, we take immense pride in supporting meaningful causes through our House Charities. Each House, thoughtfully selected a charity that reflects its values, with students playing a central role in choosing these organisations.

ANVIL - The Colour Works Foundation: Anvil's partnership with The Colour Works Foundation represents an investment in personal development and leadership skills. This charity focuses on empowering individuals to grow, fostering a more capable and thriving community.

KINGSWEAR - Relate: Kingswear supports Relate, a charity that provides counselling services. This reflects our commitment to mental health and emotional well-being, ensuring individuals have access to essential support and guidance during challenging times.

TRINITY - Mosaic: Trinity collaborates with Mosaic to address the critical issue of youth bereavement. By offering resources and support, this partnership aids young individuals navigating grief and loss, helping them find hope and resilience.

CALSHOT - Black Women Rising: Calshot champions Black Women Rising, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. This charity addresses challenges faced by marginalised communities, empowering individuals and advocating for social justice.

HURST - STEM4: Hurst works with STEM4 to support teenage mental health. This partnership emphasises early intervention and resources to help adolescents face mental health challenges with strength and understanding.

PORTLAND - Dorset My Time Young Carers: Portland's alliance with Dorset My Time Young Carers acknowledges the invaluable role young carers play in our community. This charity provides essential resources and assistance, helping to ease the burdens young carers face in their caregiving roles.

Through these partnerships, our Houses are not just symbols of unity and identity but also vehicles of positive change. Together, we are making a meaningful impact in our community and beyond.
